BEYOU is a Jacksonville, Florida jewelry line founded in 2016 by Lacey Smith, a lifelong Jacksonville local and University of North Florida business marketing graduate. Every piece starts on the coast — in the sand, the shells, and the shark teeth Lacey has spent a lifetime collecting along the beaches she grew up on.
BEYOU was born in a hospital room. After two of Lacey's three children were diagnosed with leukemia within two and a half years of one another, she spent months living between home and the hospital. “After two of my three children were diagnosed with leukemia two and a half years apart, I spent a lot of time in the hospital,” Lacey has said. “Going into our fifth overnight stay, I was running out of ways to entertain us. I ran home to grab some clean clothes and ended up grabbing a jar of sea treasures and old pieces of unworn jewelry for us to play around with. Without a clue of what to do, I started piecing together some of my favorite things: stones, sharks teeth, fossils — and from there the idea sparked.”
Both of Lacey's children have since gone into remission, and what started as a way to get through those hospital nights has grown into a jewelry line carried by 20+ retailers across Florida and beyond. Fashioned with a beach boho vibe and a belief in always owning who you are, BEYOU was built with a strong passion for those impacted by cancer, and a reminder that no matter what changes, remaining true to yourself — just “being you” — is what matters most.
That hospital-room jar of shark teeth and sea glass is still where BEYOU's designs come from today. Lacey hand-conceptualizes, designs, and packs every piece herself from her home studio in Jacksonville — sourcing materials, building the shark tooth and coastal collections, running pop-up events, and shipping every order that comes in. It's a one-woman operation, built one necklace at a time, for women who live salty, wild, and unapologetically themselves.
