FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Is BEYOU jewelry actually waterproof?
Yes. Every BEYOU piece is designed to be worn in the shower, the pool, and the ocean, and to hold up to sweat and everyday humidity. The gold-plated sterling silver base and plating process are built specifically so you can wear your jewelry 24/7 without taking it off for water.
Will BEYOU jewelry turn my skin green?
No. Our pieces are made from gold-plated sterling silver or 18k gold-filled base metals, which are designed to resist the reaction that causes cheaper costume jewelry to turn skin green. As with any jewelry, extremely sensitive skin can occasionally react to any metal, but tarnishing and skin discoloration are exactly what our waterproof, tarnish-free plating is built to prevent.
What is the difference between gold-plated and gold-filled jewelry?
Gold-plated jewelry has a thin layer of gold bonded to a base metal, while gold-filled jewelry has a much thicker layer of gold mechanically bonded to the base, making it more durable over time. BEYOU uses both gold-plated sterling silver and 18k gold-filled pieces depending on the design, and each product page lists which one you are getting.
How long does the gold plating last?
With normal daily wear, including water exposure, BEYOU's tarnish-free plating is designed to last for years, not months. Avoiding harsh chemicals like chlorine shock, perfume sprayed directly on the piece, and abrasive cleaners will help any gold-plated or gold-filled jewelry last even longer.
What if I need to return or exchange my order?
We offer exchanges and store credit within our return window. Earrings are final sale for hygiene reasons. Full details are available on our Returns page.
Where is BEYOU jewelry made?
BEYOU is designed and hand-assembled by founder Lacey Smith from her home studio in Jacksonville, Florida, inspired by the shells, shark teeth, and sea glass she has collected along the coast since 2016.
